Mary Girard has been committed to an asylum. Having become pregnant by another man, her husband and wealthy businessman
Stephen Girard, has her declared legally insane. As Mary endures the sinister “tranquilizing chair,” the maniacal Furies dance
around and summon people from her past including her husband and her mother. Through all of this, Mary struggles to prove to
everyone that she is not insane … but reality slowly slips away from her and by the end of this haunting and highly theatrical piece,
she may actually be insane.
The Insanity of Mary Girard by Lanie Robertson was presented by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc. in New York. Sections of the synopsis provided by Samuel French.
