Playwright must be a student at Southern State Community College.
Scripts should be original, unpublished, and unproduced stage plays. No film or TV scripts.
Your one act should be at least ten pages (10-15 minutes running time), but no longer than thirty pages.
Your script should include a cover page with the following content: title, playwright, mailing address, phone number, and
email. The title should be centered, approximately half-way down the page. Contact information should be in the upper left
corner.
Following the cover page, include a one paragraph synopsis of the play. This second page should also include a cast of
characters with descriptions and any notes on setting (place and time).
The text of the play should be in standard play format on 8 ½ x 11 white paper. All text should be single-spaced and typed in
a 12 point readable font. When separating characters’ lines or longer stage directions, double space. Stage directions are
usually in parenthesis and/or italics. Use continuous pagination (not resetting at the start of a scene). Do not number the title
page – begin with the first page of the actual script.
The one act will be judged on format, concept, dramatic action, characterization, dialogue, and ability to be staged.
All other writing contest guidelines are posted at SSCC campuses.
